NFL Weekly Roundup (Week 6)

Thursday Night Football: Eagles 28 Panthers 23

This was a game between two dominant teams, looking to contend this year. Philly was able to win this back and forth game, to solidify their place as the best team in the NFC East. QB Carson Wentz is continuing his great second season with a 222yd, 3TD performance on the night. The Eagles are about to face the Washington Redskins next week on Monday Night Football, in a highly anticipated divisional rivalry game. Let’s see if they continue their winning ways.

Sunday:

Bears 27 Ravens 24

QB Mitch Trubisky got his first NFL win, as a starter against the Baltimore Ravens. This game between two below average offenses, came down to the final play, in which Bears kicker Connor Barth hit the game winning 40yd field goal in overtime. Bears fans are hopeful this is a positive sign for the rest of the year, as they stand at only 2-4.

Vikings 23 Packers 10

The Packers were the favorites to wins this game, until QB Aaron Rodgers suffered a broken collarbone in the middle of the 1st quarter, and would not return. Packers fans around the world saw their season flash before them, as he was carted off the field. Backup quarterback Brett Hundley took his place and it all went downhill from there. In the now battle of the backups, Case Keenum was able to put his team on top on a Packers team that looked discouraged and sloppy. The Packers are looking to try to save the season, but the loss of a future hall of famer is seriously going to hurt their chances at the playoffs.

Redskins 26 49ers 24

How did the Redskins let this happen? The putrid now 0-6 San Francisco 49ers, had two quarterbacks in this game (Brian Hoyer was benched for rookie C.J. Beathard) and still managed to almost win. The Washington defense was underwhelming, thanks in part, to the loss of CB Josh Norman. Despite getting the win, ‘Skins fans are going into their game against Philadelphia with caution.

Saints 52 Lions 38

It was like there were no defenses on the field for this high scoring game, as both New Orleans and Detroit combined for 90 points. Both teams committed silly mistakes throughout this game, but the Saints were easily the more dominant team. Detroit’s once promising form is really taking a hit as they now stand at .500.

Dolphins 20 Falcons 17

The Falcons choked a 17-0 lead! The Dolphins came into Atlanta as the definite underdogs and managed to actually put points up on the board and make a comeback win happen. Going into the game I thought the Fins had no shot in the world to win, but they managed to make it happen, giving hope to their loyal fans back in Miami. Let’s see if they can better the Jets in their second matchup of the year with them at home, and for the Falcons if they manage to beat New England in their Super Bowl rematch on Sunday Night Football next week.

Patriots 24 Jets 17

The Patriots survived this game against New York, in part to the horrible referring that took place. TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins was in the end zone and scored for the Jets, when the referees claimed he didn’t have full possession of the ball, despite the replay indicating he did. This angers all NFL fans outside of New York/New Jersey, as this added fuel to the fire, in the criticisms of NFL officials.

Texans 33 Browns 17

It was another dominant outing for rookie QB Deshaun Watson, as he had a 225yd, 3TD, 1INT performance against an expectedly horrible Cleveland Browns team. The first overall pick of the draft Myles Garrett, shined for the Browns, with a sack in his second NFL game. The Texans were easily able to win this game, as most people expected.

Cardinals 38 Buccaneers 33

AP Is back! The future hall of fame running back, Adrian Peterson, ran for 134yds and 2TDs on 26 carries. Teammate Larry Fitzgerald said after the game, “I wish he’d have been here 11 years from the beginning… I’d have a Super Bowl ring already. But having him here, his leadership, his demeanor in the huddle, I think it’s reinvigorating everybody.” Peterson finally has the opportunity to finish his career on top with a team willing to give him 20+ carries a game, with the loss of David Johnson. For the Bucs, QB Jameis Winston had to be replaced by backup Ryan Fitzpatrick due to a shoulder injury, but still managed to make it a one possession game. They look to regain form in the coming weeks.

Rams 27 Jaguars 17

The Rams offense under coach Sean McVay is still looking great. The first play of the game was a 103 yard kick return for a touchdown by Pharoh Cooper and L.A. didn’t stop there. RB Todd Gurley ran for 116yards and the receivers each had a good day. It was a more conservative day for Jared Goff as he only threw for 124yds and 1TD, but had a solid game nonetheless.

Chargers 17 Giants 16

The return of QB Derek Carr wasn’t enough for this lost Raiders offense. Amari Cooper continued his struggles with only 28yds on 5 catches. Their defense also struggled mightily against this high-powered Chargers pass game. It came down to the kick of Nick Novak to win the game for L.A..

Steelers 19 Chiefs 13

Kansas City is undefeated no more. The killer B’s of Pittsburgh were too much for the strong Chiefs defense and Alex Smith played more like himself. QB Ben Roethlisberger had a decent bounce back game, a week from his 5 INT performance, as he threw for 252yds, 1TD, and 1INT.  Kansas City looks to dominant again in the coming weeks.

Giants 23 Broncos

NYG gets the biggest surprise win out of all the teams in week 6. Without Odell Beckham Jr., Brandon Marshall, and Sterling Shepard, Eli Manning and the Giants offense lit up the “No Fly Zone” Denver defense. Are the Giants going back to their winning ways after this statement win? Let’s see

Monday Night Football: Titans 36 Colts 22

The return of Marcus Mariota lit a fire in the hearts of the Tennessee Titans. It was a back and forth game until the end of the 4th quarter, when the Titans scored 2 TDs to end Indy’s chances. Colts fans are praying that Andrew Luck comes back soon or else their season is over.
