As everyone should know by now, the Cleveland Cavaliers have traded G Kyrie Irving to the Boston Celtics for G Isaiah Thomas, F Jae Crowder, C Ante Zizic, the Brooklyn Nets’ 2018 first round pick and a 2020 2nd rounder (via Miami). Fans from everywhere, as well as many current and former NBA players took to social media to show the world, how they felt about this move. The almost unanimous decision by those on social media and major sports networks, was that the Celtics were robbed or easily lost this trade. Many are downplaying the fact that Boston just acquired arguably a top 10 guard in the league to replace a 5’8” scorer, that is a defense liability. Yeah the loss of Crowder and the first rounder may hurt now, but this move was needed to elevate the C’s to true championship contending status. Kyrie has a mission this season is to get his team to the promised land and to shut the doubters up. This won’t be easy, as Cleveland are still the early favorites in the East, but the Celtics definitely have the roster to compete with anyone. While we might all expect to see Golden State raise the Larry O’Brien trophy once again, the competition in the East between these two juggernaut franchises, just got even better and is something all fans should look forward to.
