The quarterfinals did a great job in continuing the intensity and suspense shown throughout this 2018 Fifa World Cup. My predictions from my previous WC article were almost all correct, as I had France, England, and Croatia all going through to the semis, but underestimated Belgium’s chances against Brazil. France made easy work of an Uruguay squad that couldn’t find themselves on the attack for most of the game, England advanced through what was a disappointing performance by Sweden, Belgium beat Brazil in what was a very back and forth game between two world class sides, and Croatia won in penalties against the host nation in Russia. These four teams understand that it’s crunch time and that two more wins ensures glory. Let’s go into the 2018 Fifa World Cup semifinal predictions
France v. Belgium
France wins 3-2
Both teams will be looking to attack from the start and I anticipate each will score early, with relative ease. It will be France that through their collective effort and incredible talent will prevail a very close and competitive contest. On a side note, this will be a game in which French world cup winner, Thierry Henry will be (assistant) coaching against his native country, which will be quite an odd sight for many.
Croatia v. England
England wins 2-1
I could very well see this game going to extra time and possibly penalties, based on how evenly matched these two teams are. What’s going to decide this one is which individual player(s) is going to step up for their nation and shine on arguably the biggest game of their life. When it’s all said and done though, I think the proud and rowdy English faithful will help their “Three Lions” go all the way to the World Cup final.
