It’s been awhile since my last MMA post, I know, but what a time to be back. UFC 226 was definitely one of the best PPVs of the year, where history was made. This much anticipated fight between UFC Heavyweight Champion, Stipe Miocic and UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Daniel Cormier lived up to the hype and could change the course of the UFC heavyweight division for years to come. Let’s analyze the result of the main event.
Daniel Cormier defeats Stipe Miocic via KO, 4:33 min of the 1st round
Going into this fight many UFC fans made the argument as to how either fighter could win, and both sides were equally as valid. It’s safe to say, though, that no one predicted this finish happening so early in the fight, especially for Cormier, who is jumping up one weight class. After his quick work of a bitter Miocic, DC will now be a part of the G.O.A.T. conversation in the UFC. He is currently the 4th ranked pound for pound fighter in all of the UFC and is likely to raise that ranking after this result. As mentioned before, history was also made by the end of this fight, as Cormier is the second fighter in UFC history to hold two consecutive UFC titles at the same time (first was Conor McGregor).
Post-fight controversy
The pay-per-view didn’t end after the fight, as when being interviewed by Joe Rogan, Daniel Cormier took the opportunity to call out former UFC Heavyweight Champion, Brock Lesnar, who was in the crowd. Lesnar, clearly insulted at the thought of Cormier having a chance against him in a potential superfight, ran inside the octagon and shoved DC, in addition to talk a lot of explicit trash. Later on in the night, UFC president Dana White confirmed that he will be pushing to make the fight happen soon.
