I think I speak for most NBA fans out there in saying, “WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED!?” Arguably the best center in basketball, DeMarcus Cousins, has agreed to sign a one-year $5.3 million deal to join the Golden State Warriors. Keep in mind that the Warriors signed him with their $5.3 million mid-level exception, that they used last year to get F Nick Young. As an avid fan of the NBA, words can’t even express my overall disappointment with the announcement of this signing, as this just further pushes the predictability level of the season and makes the competition that much more one-sided.
The counter-argument that can and has been used already, is that Cousins, who recently ruptured his achilles (widely known as one of the worst injuries a basketball player, especially a center, can suffer) is using this year as a “rehab heavy” season, where he will be less pressured to rush the process to play sooner, as the team he is on will not need his services immediately. Also, he is looking to keep his stock high for next offseason where he will be most likely looking for a max contract elsewhere.
Regardless of any arguments in favor of Cousins’ decision, I stand firmly by my already expressed opinion of being extremely disappointed by this move, as most fans are. This has been an extremely surprised and stunning development to say the least.
